Yksi lähes päivittäin opettajankouluttajana miettimäni asia on epäonnistumisen taito tai taide.  Mielestäni se liittyy näkemykseen ymmärtää oppiminen jatkuvana – keskivaiheessaan olevana – prosessina, jota ei voi kontrolloida.  Kun sen oivaltaa, samalla tajuaa, että juuri tässä (suunnitellun näkökulmasta) epäonnistumisessa   oppiminen tapahtuu, ei niinkään suunnitellusti tuotetuissa tapahtumissa.

Epäonnistumisen taide ei kiellä valmistautumista.  Päinvastoin se edellyttää monenlaista ennakkotyötä ja asiantuntijuutta, mutta siten että akuutti tapahtuminen jätetään avoimeksi, sellaiseksi, että se tuottaa itse itsensä.  Tällaista toisintapahtumista voidaan kutsua onnekkaaksi sattumaksi, ja siinä oppiminen asuu.

I almost daily think as a teacher educator over the art of failure. I believe that it is connected with an insight to understand learning as a continuous  – in the middle-phase-existing – process, which cannot be controlled. When one realizes it, s/he also comprehends that  this  context of failure is the place in which learning takes place. The learning doesn´t locate itself within totally planned events.

The art of failure doesn´t neglect preparing. On the contrary it presupposes multiple preliminary work and expertise, but in a way that the acute happening is left open to allow it to be produced by itself. Often this precisely takes an alternative performance, which is a kind of lucky failure – and there is authentic learning!
