I finished today Saramago´s novel  Seeing .  Earlier during summer I also read books  The Gospel According to Jesus Christ and The Cave.  Saramago has made an awesome impact on me by his  fitting descriptions of  movements of a human mind, and by sore and  funny critics of a sociaty. Saramago really is/was the author  worth  Nobel prize – and even more!

In Seeing  83 %  of the inhabitants of  the capital vote empty,  the right wing and  the central party get 8 % both, and the left wing party  one percentage of the votes.  Eighty three percentages of the capital inhabitants  self organize their living by themselves  responsibly.  They spend ordinary  and humane life, but according to  political elite  ”the 83 %” is  conspiring  against the parlamentary democracy.  In Saramago´s story  there is a  clever conflict between  a positive utopia and  an abuse of power inside  the parliamentary system. The most impressive in the book is  the depicting of  mutual appreciation and support  of the ”83 %”, and the most terrible  – and exact and  apt – the demonstration of arrogance, lust for power and blindness of the elite.

When I red the book, I began to believe, that people can organize and make real the ordinary and good life, but I also saw that it is a threat  for the power of the elite.  The novel finish to the death of good murdered by a professional killer.  The end  still stay open –  was the murder the last act of the old domination or the sign that the elite always win and everything continues as earlier.  Perhaps the novel gives  last words for  a future life for me?

Verkoston pauloissa/ Dived in networks

I´ve during two days red network analyses of organizations made by teacher students. The analyses are based on the questionnaire and interview materials and on the relevant literature. A key finding in analyses seems to be that  both informal and formal networks inside organizations are very important, but a concrete character and functionality  of informal networks  are unknown or  they are not understood by people in organizations.  However, their role  should be understood, i.e. informal networks (e.g. the one´s, which awake in coffee rooms) may be even more remarkable than formal relations, connections and structures. At the same time I´m reflecting, what is the difference  between (formal and informal) organization and network structures. Or what is their mutual relationship? Or is it so that ”a formal” is an organization structure and ”an informal”  already glides in a network structure?

When examining internal networks of organizations and their functionality it also has to differentiate an organization and a community from each other.  The organization is connected with  formal  collaboration and power relations, while  the community and communality are connected with informal  interaction relationships. When informal networks are viewed through communities and a communality, it is important to draw attention in individual and shared emotions, in an amount and a quality of interaction, and in a leadership. The latter is a communital entity of a use of power, not so much  a power act of individuals (leaders).

An another factor, by which formal and informal networks can be examined more exactly,  is to locate  a network in the continuum of different kinds of gatherings of people, and to try to reach the real character of  a network by it.  A suggestion below.
